When we think about healing today, most people picture doctors, medicine, or therapy. But in the ancient Mediterranean world, healing meant something far deeper—and far stranger. Illness wasn’t only about the body. It touched morality, community, divine judgment, and the very meaning of life itself. Into this world of mystery and power stepped Jesus of Nazareth, who was remembered above all as a healer.

This three-module course explores how ancient people understood healing, why it was so closely tied to divine and social power, and how Jesus and his followers developed the meaning of healing into something new and enduring.

The course is divided into three modules, each containing a single lecture. You can watch the videos at your convenience and enjoy continuing access. The full course includes about twenty-five minutes of recorded instruction.
